Founding Mothers

Anja K-Metzner

I am a mother of two teenage boys, a midwife and Hawaiian massage therapist and have had two homebirths. I am passionate about supporting women and their families to have an empowering birth experience and positive transition to parenthood. I offer Pregnancy and New Mama massage as well as Hawaiian full body massage for women.

I want to be available to answer questions, give ideas, reassure and help to support women and their partners planning or considering a homebirth.

I have four gorgeous children and am probably the last person you would see in the street and think of homebirth.  When I was pregnant with my second baby my midwife suggested it to me and I count myself incredibly lucky that she did as I have since had three amazing and empowering homebirths surrounded by my family.  Over time these experiences have led me to get involved with this group.  I really hope that I will be able to inspire other parents-to-be to consider homebirth, giving them confidence and support to enable them to experience birth at it’s very best.

I am a mother of a lovely girl called Anastasia, and did not have anything to do with home birth until I got pregnant with her.  Initially quite sceptical I quickly changed my mind realising that a homebirth was the best choice for me and my family.  Even though, due to complications, my delivery was actually in hospital, I consider my birth as homebirth (after all the time spent in hospital was very short and a fraction of the whole process) and am convinced that my home birth prevented me from having a C-section. I want to help other mums realise that a home birth is a viable option, regardless if you are a first time mum or you have had other children before.

I was born at home myself and I've always known I would want homebirths for my own babies.  I believe that feeling relaxed and safe is a key factor in a birth being able to progress naturally and avoid medical intervention - for me this could only mean being at home.  My first daughter's homebirth actually ended with a last-minute hospital delivery.  The whole experience has made me even more determined to prepare for a full and joyful homebirth next time.  What I love about the Homebirth Group is that talking with other mothers feels so much more inspiring and real than just reading about homebirth in books, useful though this can be, and I have learnt so much from the experiences shared.
